Tattoo removal laser removing butterfly tattoo on girls lower back

Tattoo Removal

Tattoos are effectively tiny balls of ink injected into the dermis of the skin, they are permanent due to them being too large for the bodies white blood cells to remove. Tattoos are can be faded or completely removed via the use of our ND YAG Q switched laser that creates photo acoustic shockwaves, releasing heat from the tattoo and shattering it into tiny particles, known as the photo mechanical effect. These shattered particles are then carried away by macrophages and leave the body through the lymphatic system. Our AW3 state of the art laser system uses multiple wave lengths that enables the removal tattoos of all colours and sizes with minimal side effects

The complete removal of tattoos can take between 3 and 10 sessions 6 weeks apart and depends heavily on the location of the tattoo, the age and the colour/type of inks used. Patch testing is also required to assess the bodies reaction to the laser. Below is a diagram demonstrating the effect of the laser on the tattoo ink:

Consultation
At your no obligation free consultation we assess your tattoo and skin type and provide you with an estimate of how many sessions will be required alongside the cost. We will also walk you through the process of laser tattoo removal, what to expect and what aftercare is required for optimal results. If you choose to proceed with your removal we will perform a test patch with three single shots of our laser to determine your skins suitability for laser treatment and avoid any potential adverse reactions. After your test patch is complete we will wait one weeks and then assess your skins response to the laser and proceed with your treatment if you wish.

Prior to Treatment

  • Before your treatment it is important to avoid sun exposed for at least 30 days in the area of the tattoo that you wish to have removed. If UV exposure is unavoidable SPF50 suncream should be applied. Sun effected skin can increase discomfort, side effects and decrease effectiveness of the treatment.
  • Topical anaesthetic can be applied to the treatment area however this must be done one hour before your session, otherwise it may be ineffective. You can purchase topical aesthetic from us at your consultation or alternately at your local pharmacy.
  • We also recommend that if you smoke to limit or cease smoking for up to four weeks prior to treatment as smoking reduces circulation and can slow wound healing.
  • Depending on the location of the tattoo you may wish to wear loose fitting clothing to prevent rubbing or irritation.
  • Should the tattooed area have had hair this should be shaved prior to treatment.

Treatment

  • The treatment site will be cleaned and prepped with a cold compress to reduce any discomfort.
  • After the area is suitably numb it will be lasered which is described as feeling like a hot elastic band flicking against the skin. The tattoo will turn immediately white which is due to gases being released from the ink this will dissipate within around twenty minutes. Additionally minor pinpoint bleeding is also common and not to be concerning.
  • Once the tattoo has been suitably lasered you clinician will apply a soothing and antibacterial gel, a dressing to protect the area and run through the aftercare.

Aftercare

  • Apply a very thin layer of aquaphor and a liberal amount of aloe vera to the site two to three times daily, depending on the dryness of the area for the first three days. Should the area become uncomfortable a cold compress can be applied and paracetamol taken respectively.
  • Keep the area covered with the dressings provided for three days, changing the dressing once per day. After this time the dressing should be removed to aid healing and scabbing. It is normal for scabs, blisters and bruises to form during the first 8 to 72 hours.
  • You should avoid showering a least four hours post treatment, however avoid high pressure water, soaking and steam rooms. The area should be cleaned with mild soap and water and patted dry.
  • Once the dressing is removed continue to apply aquaphor and aloe vera two to three times daily for the first two weeks or until the area is healed.
  • The area may be itchy, which is a normal part of the bodies healing process, it is imperative that the area is not scratched as this can significantly increase the risks of infection and scarring.
  • Infection is very rare but should be monitored, observe the site for signs such as; heat around the treatment area, oozing, a yellow crust, or spreading redness. If you should suspect infection you should contact your GP.
  • Sun exposure (sun beds included) should be avoided and the area covered when outside, if this is not possible SPF 50 should be worn.

Woman getting a carbon laser facial

Carbon Facial

Carbon laser facial works by blasting the skin with short sharp bursts of energy which together with the carbon paste that is applied to the face acts to not only exfoliating the epidermis causing pores to appear smaller but also penetrating deep into the dermis stimulating collagen production. By working on both of these layers it enables both instant and long term results. This treatments actively reduces wrinkles as the heat from the laser creates an inflammatory response within the dermal layers. The response is for the body to immediately start repairing the areas that it thinks has been damaged, this is done by producing new collagen which creates a smoother skin surface thus reducing wrinkles.

The treatment can also reduce pigmentation as the laser is able to penetrate into the skin where the pigment is present and breaks it down into smaller pieces, this enables the body to said pieces via the lymphatic system. Acne can be reduced also, the heat from the laser kills ‘P acne bacteria’ and acts to reduce the activity of oil producing sebaceous glands.

It is recommended that a course of between 3 and 6 treatments is completed to attain maximum benefits.
